An Exclusive Look into our Mill Plaza Design Project

The Black Goose Design is honored to be a part of some dramatic design changes happening with Archibald's Restaurant at historic Gardner Village
located in West Jordan, Utah.
Get ready for an exclusive sneak peek inside this stunning new design project, Mill Plaza.
With much collaboration and design planning with co-owner Joe Long, and interior designer Randi Smith, a vision was developed that will greet the many wonderful guests of Gardner Village. This new addition will be an added benefit for guests to enjoy live entertainment, community performances, privates parties and to ultimately connect Archibald's Restaurant and CF Home to the entire Village allowing the property to flow all-together.

The original basement will soon be converted into a spacious and stunning banquet room which will seat up to 65 people, who will enjoy beautiful atmosphere throughout the newly- developed space.
This incredible scene will be brought to life where guests may mingle during events in a lower bar/reception area all while taking in gorgeous scenery with calming water features including the Village's original working waterwheel.

The Black Goose Design is creating a look that will cherish the rich history of Gardner Village while still keeping the overall feel of the newly-designed area of Mill Plaza fresh and appealing. The exciting changes all started last year when the exterior of the Mill was selected, a classic crisp white. We wanted to keep the original feel of its timeless historic features yet allow the area to blend with all the updated detailing. While doing research into some history of what the Mill had originally looked like, we were thrilled to find out that it was white!

The Mill is located on the National Registry of Historic Places and is an amazing part of Utah's history. Mill Plaza will be graced with the crown jewel of the Village, a working waterwheel. Originally Gardner Mill was a flour mill company, powered by water and turbines. This is the perfect setting where guests will be able to enjoy a part of Utah's wonderful history right here at Mill Plaza. This spectacular feature will be surrounded with breathtaking landscaping adding to the ambiance of the patio.

As construction commenced and walls were taken down, we found exposed brick had once been the original walls of the mill. Brick is always a classic design element as it adds texture and warmth. We decided to incorporate three different types of new brick with the original brickwork. By mixing in the varied types of brick, we were able to achieve a unified look, a great blend of combining the old with the new as if all the brick had been right there from the beginning.

Shiplap is a classic look in many spaces but especially a great look for an old mill. It embraces a classic style and feel. Amazing woodwork and spectacular windows open up this area bringing the outside view of the plaza into this magnificent space.

Another feature we are giddy about is this extraordinary wood grain wallpaper on the ceiling! The light coloring and texture is a dramatic design detail that is ideal for the space. Unique lighting features from The Black Goose Design were also incorporated that will create a soft, warm glow complementing the banquet room.

We salvaged original doors and gears from the mill and used them throughout the new space. We wanted to not only display these phenomenal pieces but to share with the guests so they may enjoy their beauty and history as well.

Rich wood ceilings with deep-colored tones allow for this multi-functional space to feel cozy and welcoming. Metal riveting combined with wood planking on the bar creates an industrial-type look, echoing the history of the mill.

The Black Goose Design is thoroughly enjoying the entire design process as we watch the development of this project become a reality.
